Earth quake resistant construction
In the aftermath of the Gujarat earthquake, there is an awareness among the public regarding the necessity to make the building construction earth quake resistant.
It is said that earthquakes don’t kill people, but buildings kill people. By taking care to make the construction earthquake proof, we can not only avoid economic loss but also loss of precious lives.
Earth quakes are low probability but high risk events. So buildings have to be designed and built anticipating, the force it has to withstand on the event of an earthquake.
There are three main aspects, that a design code has to address, viz, delineation of seismic hazard, specification of forces dive to the hazard and methods of structural design for the estimated forces.
Habitat technology group has developed expertise in earthquake resistant construction, which has stood the test of time.
Habitat has developed practices and methodology to construct durable buildings in areas prone to natural calamity.
Habitat has constructed human settlements in Orissa, and other places in India, which are periodically ravaged by natural calamity such as (cyclones and floods).
